DevGenie FAQ

Short answers about DevGenie: what it is, what you need, how sign-in and plans work, and where your work lives.

What is DevGenie?

A plugin for Claude Code for spec-first software delivery: it drafts your project's architecture, has it rated independently by the DevGenie service, then helps you build the project one checked task at a time.

What do I need?

Claude Code v2.1.154 or later, a network connection and a DevGenie account. Building needs an active paid plan.

Is there a free plan?

No. You can sign in before you pay, and the start-up commands work, but building needs an active plan. See Plans and billing.

Do I need a licence key?

No. You sign in with your SmartGenie account in the browser.

Where does my code live?

In your own repository, on your machine. DevGenie writes project files there and asks for your approval before building a task.

Does it work offline?

No. DevGenie's server-backed commands need a network connection, and the independent ratings run on the DevGenie service.
